Is it a lie? Is it a miracle? It’s not a lie and it may well be a miracle what has just happened: EMEL, the company responsible for most of the city’ s parking lots, has just opened the gates to five of its parking lots, so that everyone can enjoy themselves without the worry of leaving their car badly parked during the day Popular Saints.
In order to guarantee greater mobility for all Lisbon residents and visitors while the Lisbon Festivities, eMEL (Empresa Municipal de Mobilidade e Estacionamento de Lisboa) has just announced a series of unprecedented measures.
More places to leave your car
The best way to get to “the Saints” is by public transport: CP itself has already announced three new special timetables for the night of June 12-13:
- Rossio > Sintra at 01:30, 02:00, 02:30, 03:00, 03:30, 04:00, 04:30, 05:00 and 05:30
- Cais do Sodré > Cascais at 02:30, 03:30 and 04:30
- Lisbon Santa Apolónia > Azambuja at 01:30 and 03:30
But the truth is that this doesn’t always work for everyone. So, if you’re really going to have to take your car, EMEL will be offering free parking in eight of its car parks on the night of St. Anthony ‘s Day, making the job of the Public Security Police (PSP) much easier, as on this day of the year there are many requests for help due to improper parking.
In total, there will be more than 1,900 free parking spaces on the night of St. Anthony’s Day (June 12):
- Colégio Militar
- Estrada da Luz
- Areeiro
- Universidade
- Campo Grande
- Ameixoeira
- Avenida de Pádua
- HUB Criativo do Beato
You’ll be able to pass freely through the gates of these parks from 6 p. m. on June 12, but only until 6 a.m. the following day, all you have to do is validate the voucher, at zero cost, when you enter one of these parks.
