There are still supervised beaches near Lisbon, but only for a short time. According to Ordinance No. 204-A/2026/1, which establishes this year’s swimming seasons, the beaches in the municipalities of Cascais, Oeiras, and Almada have a swimming season that runs through Wednesday, September 30. Starting Thursday, the sand will still be there, but the lifeguards won’t—and the IPMA forecast still calls for temperatures above 30°C in Lisbon on Saturday.
What’s already over and what ends on September 30
The swimming season is the period during which beaches have guaranteed assistance for swimmers. In Cascais, it runs from May 1 to September 30. In Oeiras (Caxias, Paço de Arcos, Santo Amaro, and Torre) and in Almada (the entire Costa da Caparica), the season began on June 1 and also ends on September 30.
Cascais Line: from Caxias to Guincho
This is the best option for those traveling by train: get off at the station and walk the rest of the way. Carcavelos has a 1.25-km-long beach, with surf schools and a medical station. Tamariz, Poça, Azarujinha, Conceição, and—just past Cascais—Guincho North and South all have the bathing season running through the 30th.

Costa da Caparica: kilometers of beach until Wednesday
Across the river, the entire Costa da Caparica has a swimming season that runs through September 30, with no exceptions— São João, CDS, Tarquínio-Paraíso, Riviera, Sereia, Morena, Castelo, Fonte da Telha, and the rest.
Not all beaches in the region follow Cascais’ schedule. According to the same ordinance, in Sintra (Adraga, Grande, Maçãs, Magoito, São Julião, and Azenhas do Mar) and in Sesimbra (Meco, Califórnia, Ouro, and Lagoa de Albufeira-Mar), the swimming season ended on September 13; in Arrábida ( Figueirinha, Galapinhos, Galapos, Portinho, and Albarquel), it ended on the 15th. Since that date, these beaches have been unsupervised.
The weather for the weekend
The IPMA’s five-day forecast for Lisbon, checked on September 24, calls for 32°C on Saturday and 28°C on Sunday, with virtually no rain; the most noticeable drop comes on Monday, with 27°C and the first chance of rain. Since the forecast changes daily, check the IPMA website before leaving home.
