An investment of just over 1.2 million euros will finally save the Doca Walkway in Parque das Nações, a structure that has been closed for around three years due to “risk of collapse”.
The long-awaited work to restore the Doca Walkway officially began on September 30, and the first visible works consist of setting up the construction site and fencing off the area to be intervened upon, guaranteeing safety all around.
Significant investment of €1,216,350.04
Around 1.2 million euros will be invested in this contract, awarded by Lisbon City Council to the company Atlântinível Construção Civil, LDA., which aims to do more than simple maintenance: it will be a major intervention in a structure that has been off-limits to the public for too long, since 2022, having originally been built for the great world exhibition Expo’98.
According to the Parque das Nações parish council, the work includes restoring the concrete foundations that support the entire walkway, treating and reinforcing the entire metal structure, repairing the railings and rehabilitating the mobile bridge at one end.
This is undoubtedly excellent news for the thousands of residents and visitors to Parque das Nações, who for several years have been deprived of access to this emblematic walkway, known for its promenades over the Tagus.
