By now, everyone knows – or should know – that the photographs promoting those huge, “visually delicious” hamburgers offered by the big fast food restaurants are, as they say these days, fake.
However, even if the photos don’t represent reality very well, the truth is that the taste is often there, and it’s quite “good”, even “addictive “. These restaurants are always full not only because they’re fast, but also because they offer that distinctive taste, that “special umami ” that makes your mouth water.
And that’s exactly what I wanted to check out with a new roast chicken sandwich that’s being talked about a lot: I went to Burger King to eat their latest novelty, the Chicken Krispper.

The Secret Lisbon experience
I confess that I ‘m not a regular customer of this restaurant chain, which is known for its grilled food offerings, but after hearing that they had just launched a new grilled chicken flavor, I couldn’t resist the temptation to go and try it.
From what I’d heard, the brand asked some of the best-known steakhouses in Greater Lisbon to gather opinions on their new product.
I was sad that they didn’t take advantage of our experience in tasting roast chickens: we’re not experts in the art of roasting them, but we are true artists when it comes to eating them… and our list of the best grilled chickens in Lisbon doesn’t lie.

Even if you haven’t asked for my opinion, I’m going to give it to you. I’ll start by saying that, at first, this experience wasn’t easy at all, and I even experienced a few technical mishaps.
As soon as I entered the store, I went straight to one of those vending machines to place my order and, after 10 minutes of going through all the menus, I couldn ‘t find the infamous roast chicken sandwich listed . It was advertised, but there was no way of choosing it.
Okay, thinking that there must be some “computer error” in these machines, I went to the traditional counter orders, which not many people use any more.
I quickly alerted the attendant that the new sandwiches weren’t on the machine menus; in return I received the reply that Burger King hadn’t yet included this sandwich as an option on the machines, a technical problem that I believe will be resolved as soon as possible.
I thought it was strange, but okay, I placed my order (medium option with fries and drink on request), paid €8.10 and waited about 10 minutes (I understand that there’s a lot of work at lunchtime, but for a fast food chain, some of that speed is missing).
When I finally heard my order number (813) being shouted at the counter, I quickly picked up the tray with the much-talked-about Chicken Krispper.

After unwrapping it and taking a few photos to record the pre-gluttony moment, I took a bite: the first impression was very positive… just like all the others!
The Chicken Krispper does indeed have something that gives it that roast chicken aroma and flavor, but perhaps not as overpowering as you might think: I believe that the cheddar cheese “steals” some of the initial prominence (I wondered what it would be like without this slice of cheese).
However, with each bite of this roast chicken sandwich, I noticed an increasingly intense flavor, the meat (chicken breast) is really juicy, but, above all, I was very happy with its crunchiness, well above average, and undoubtedly the feature I appreciated most in this new Burger King sandwich.

Equally delicious is the special Krispper sauce, as well as the lettuce which gives it some freshness. The cheddar cheese, on the other hand, I think is too intense for this type of sandwich, as is the seeded brioche bread, which, although very tasty, is a little dense and “heavy”.
All in all, I’ ll easily go back to Burger King more often to eat this sandwich, which stands out more for being incredibly crunchy than for its roast chicken flavor, which is present, but not as much as I’d like.
