Lagoa de Albufeira, in Sesimbra, offers the best of three worlds: the lagoon, the sea and the surrounding pine forest , proving to be a true paradise already discovered by many families who come here to spend a fun-filled day.
It is made up of two lagoon systems connected by a channel: Lagoa Pequena, which is more inland and shallower , and Lagoa Grande, with a maximum depth of around 15 meters, considered the deepest in mainland Portugal.
Lagoa de Albufeira is, of all our favorite lagoons, the one that offers the most options for leisure, ecotourism and adventure, as it has several services in these areas.

Lagoon, sea and lots of fun
A popular spot for sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing or canoeing , the Lagoa de Albufeira has a direct connection to the sea, along the north shore, which turns out to be our favorite area , as it’s much calmer than the lagoon, although the sound of the waves (for those who don’t like it) can be a bit noisy.
While water sports enthusiasts will find some of the best conditions for practicing various activities, birdwatchers and nature adventurers are guaranteed a unique biodiversity, with various trails and observatories that allow them to admire a wide variety of birds and other animals.

It’s no coincidence that, in the summer, it’s one of the most popular vacation spots for all Lisbon residents: not only is it close to the city (about 50 minutes away), it’s also very safe, the water quality is good and it fits in very well with the surrounding nature.
