Wine tourism getaways
This summer we’ve got something for you: swap the beach for the countryside, diving for a horse ride or a caipirinha for a wine tasting. We’re sure you’ll love it. All of these are close to Lisbon, in Almeirim, in the Ribatejo, about an hour from the capital.
The location for this type of wine tourism experience is idyllic and very peaceful. It is located in Adega Fiuza, a historic winery that stands out for its modernity, having been the target of an artistic intervention by two well-known graffiti artists, thus uniting art with the wine that is produced and enjoyed here.
The stay will be in a rural house with access to an outdoor swimming pool and activities include horse riding or boat trips, a visit to the winery and a typical lunch or breakfast.
Romantic getaway in Coimbra
The Quinta das Lágrimas Hotel is “the” refuge in Coimbra ideal for taking your better half, such is the abundance of details relating to the great love story that took place there, between Dom Pedro and Inês de Castro.
Quinta das Lágrimas is an idyllic place where you’ll find peace, harmony and a garden, Jardim dos Amores, where you can spend the whole day.
You can also enjoy the outdoor swimming pool and the creative cuisine provided by Chef Vítor Dias.
Getaway at the centuries-old Quinta da Tapada
Once upon a time there was a village full of manor houses and stately homes, where you could find the ruins of the castle, the Roman road that came from Conimbriga and forked right here to Viseu and Idanha-a-Velha, the island of Picoto in the River Alva and the adjacent river beach?
Come on, that’s enough, let’s cut the stories because this is all real! Welcome to Vila de Avô, a beautiful town in the center of the country!
Come and explore all its charm and stay at Quinta da Tapada – once one of the most important manor houses in Avô and the region and about twenty-five kilometers from Piódão.
Choose between one, two or three nights and enjoy everything the region has to offer, apart from its unavoidable beauty, which is more than obvious!
Getaway in an eco-hotel
Located in the wonderful Serra da Arrábida, Villa Epicurea is a small refuge where the green of the mountain’s natural park and the blue of the sky and sea live in complete harmony.
In this haven of well-being, bathed by the ocean breeze, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the unique sunset from its infinity pool.
This is one of those experiences we can guarantee you won’t soon forget. Here tranquillity and beauty go hand in hand, here you can breathe nature!

Getaway in an urban manor house
Fancy getting out of the routine and going on a getaway for two? Then head to Viana do Castelo to Casa Melo Alvim and discover this jewel of Minho, which embraces us between the sea and the mountains.
Set yourself up comfortably in its oldest manor house and enjoy two magical nights with your loved ones (with breakfast and a tapas menu included!).
Located in the heart of the historic center and built at the beginning of the 16th century, you can still see elements from the 16th and 17th centuries inside, as well as one of the largest filigree showcases in the country.
And for an even more authentic and complete experience, take a trip on the Funicular de Santa Luzia – the longest of all the funiculars in Portugal, with its 650 meters and a drop of 160 meters. It’s a case of saying, north is the way!
Escapades with tapas
If you already know the Alentejo city of Évora, you’ll certainly agree that it’s one of the most spectacular places – and close to Lisbon – to take a few days off with tapas experiences and other surprises.
A World Heritage Site, in Évora you can enjoy a two-night stay at The Noble House – whose origins date back to the 15th century – the oldest hotel in the city.
It’s in the heart of the city’s history, very close to the main attractions, including Praça do Giraldo, the Roman Temple (Templo de Diana), the Cathedral, the Church of S. Francisco and the Chapel of Bones.

Set off on your journey, make the most of this unique setting, which combines the calm and tranquillity of the mountains with the proximity of the sea, and feast your eyes on some real local delicacies.
Getaways in Portugal, in the city
Can you imagine sleeping in a palace? Imagine no more, because now you can make your dreams come true at the Hotel da Estrela.
This is a truly original fairytale experience in the former Palace of Paraty, right in the heart of the city.
With a unique atmosphere created by architect and interior designer Miguel Câncio Martins, who combines the iconography of the schools of yesteryear with contemporary design, you’ll be able to relax in one of the spacious and comfortable rooms of the now Hotel da Estrela, rest in its garden and visit Casa Fernando Pessoa.
Getaway in “paradise”
Disconnect from the outside world and prepare yourself for total synchronization with nature in this small refuge in the heart of the Alentejo, in Paraíso Escondido.
A true hidden paradise awaits you, where you can relax in comfort and in the best company.
Choose your favorite type of accommodation, lose yourself in the landscape and make the most of the Alentejo sky’s shower of stars on an exclusive deck in the middle of nature.
Getaways to “breathe in” Gerês
Gerês is not only one of the most beautiful regions in Portugal, it is also one of the greenest.
The country’s only National Park has incredible viewpoints, such as the Miradouro da Pedra Amarela, walkways that invite you to stroll as a couple, (almost) secret waterfalls and lodgings that encourage you to meet nature.
But if you’re looking for a love nest, Soajonature’s Favo de Mel and Love Story houses promise to win you over. The jacuzzi, outdoor pool and spectacular views will impress your better half.
On this trip, don’t miss out on some of the region’s must-see places, such as the villages of Castro Laboreiro, Soajo or Sistelo, the Mata da Albergaria, the Misarela Bridge, São Bento da Porta Aberta and the Vilarinho das Furnas Dam.
Escapes in the traditions of Alentejo
In the Alto Alentejo, between Elvas and Portalegre, is one of the Vila Galé Group’s most recent 4-star hotels, inspired by Alentejo traditions and the region’s equestrian activities.
It’s called Vila Galé Collection Alter Real and has a series of activities linked to the equestrian practices of the region, such as horseback riding (you can bring your own horse), cart rides, baptism and hitching.
It is undoubtedly one of the ideal places in the Alto Alentejo for a family getaway, or even to spend a few moments as a couple.
Getaways at the dam
Going on vacation with the kids isn’t always easy, so if you can’t beat them… join them.
In the center of the country, in Mortágua, there’s a resort where the kids will never tell you they’re bored because they have nothing to do: Montebelo Aguieira Lake Resort & SPA.
It has indoor and outdoor pools for all ages, a children’s playground, lawns to run around on and games areas.
Outside the resort, the Aguieira dam (right next door) invites kids and adults alike to try out numerous water activities, such as canoeing, windsurfing and wakeboarding.
Just over half an hour away, the cities of Coimbra and Viseu are also always an option for a family outing.
Getaways in Portugal, in the Schist Villages
If you’re in need of some peace and quiet, we suggest a trip to the center of the country to discover the Aldeias do Xisto network , which includes 27 villages in 16 municipalities in this region.
These include, for example, Talasnal, a village lost in the Lousã mountains, Janeiro de Baixo, on the banks of the River Zêzere, and Benfeita, in the Serra do Açor.
Here you’ll find the tranquillity you’re looking for, but also incredible landscapes, mouth-watering cuisine and countless river beaches that invite you to take a stroll or a dip.
Getaways in Portugal, in Serra da Estrela
If you’ve never visited Serra da Estrela at this time of year, you don’t know what you’re missing. It really can be one of the most perfect getaways in Portugal!
It’s true that in the streams and creeks the water is colder than in the Algarve, but if you’re looking for somewhere cooler, then the newest Vila Galé Serra da Estrela, in Manteigas, is the ideal place to spend a few days.
Gluttonous getaways
Did you know that the only hotel in the world with a working chocolate factory is in Portugal?
We’re talking about Palacete Real Companhia do Cacau, in Montemor-o-Novo, a charming chocolate-inspired accommodation located in a historic 19th century building.
As well as visiting the (small) factory and tasting the chocolates that are made there, you also have a swimming pool for the hottest days, a spa to relax in and various gastronomic or adventure programs that challenge you to discover the best of the region.
Getaways in the mountains
This is the ideal getaway if you can’t get too far from Lisbon, whatever your reason.
50km from the capital, in Setúbal, is the Hotel Campanile Setúbal, a very calm and relaxing place with a large garden and views of the wonderful Serra da Arrábida.
Inside you’ll find everything you need for a well-deserved few days’ rest, from a swimming pool to VIP room service and leisure areas, but if you prefer you can take the opportunity to visit some of the best beaches in the region, such as Praia dos Galapinhos, for example.
Extreme getaway in the interior of the Algarve
Did you know that you can cross the border between Portugal and Spain, suspended from a zip wire that runs over the River Guadiana?
This is one of the Algarve’s best-kept secrets, probably because it’s far from the most touristy routes, between the Spanish town of Sanlúcar de Guadiana and the Portuguese town of Alcoutim.
But there are many more extreme activities you can do in the region, such as jeep tours in the Algarve mountains, kayaking in the Guadiana or mountain biking on vertiginous trails.
Hidden” getaway
The Alentejo is one of our favorite destinations for a weekend getaway. And in this refuge, in the middle of the Alentejo plains, we found tranquillity, peace and serenity.
We suggest you sleep in a typical Alentejo house at Monte Gois Country House & SPA and when you wake up, take a dip in the relaxing swimming pool overlooking the stunning landscape.
Getaways in Portugal, in Minho
The north of the country has enchanting landscapes and in the Minho town of Celorico de Basto you’ll be able to enjoy a range of interests that only this part of the country can offer: culture, gastronomy and, of course, plenty of relaxation.
At the Flag Hotel Celorico Palace, between relaxing by the pool, you can taste the region’s best wines or even take a guided tour of the vineyards on a 4×4 motorcycle.
Getaways in Portugal, in the Algarve
This year the Algarve is buzzing with tourists, but true peace and quiet – overlooking the sea – can only be found at the 4-star Baía Grande Hotel in Albufeira.
In this part of the country you can do a bit of everything, from relaxing activities (swimming pool, spa, massages, etc.) to more dynamic moments, such as swimming with the dolphins, playing golf or going on an adventure of what the Algarve has to offer.
