Every year, the night of June 12 causes a furor among Lisbon residents and astonishment among visitors and tourists, or it wouldn’t be the highlight of the Santo António’s celebration .. and we already know who the big winner of the 2024 edition of the Marchas Populares was. This year, Alcântara shone like never before.
The announcement was made by Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural (EGEAC). According to the same source, in second place was Marvila and in third place Alfama. However, these weren’t the only special ratings of the night, but we’ll get to that in a moment.
“The most attractive neighborhood”
A total of 20 groups took part in this year’s competition, with thousands of people watching the parade on Avenida da Liberdade. In addition, around 1,600 participants were involved in the celebration, including marchers, musicians, members of the organization and much more.
In this context, as we have already mentioned, the big winner of the most anticipated night was the Alcântara neighborhood. In this edition, the collective was inspired by painters and artists.
