It’s true that Lisbon is no longer such a cheap city to find good restaurants under €10! Still, after a lot of searching, we’ve put together several places that are sure to please you.
These kitchens are different, but they have one thing in common: the price!
Table Of Contents
Tasca do Tretas
Tasca do Tretas is one of those hidden places in the middle of the city that is still open from Sunday to Friday, with a menu that doesn’t exceed €10.
It’s in Alameda, in the actors’ neighborhood, and as far as the food is concerned, it’s not “bullshit” at all! The weekly menu, starting at €7.50, consists of:
- on Sundays there’s always suckling pig
- on Mondays there’s Feijoadaà Transmontana, Mão de Vaca and Dobrada
- on Tuesdays there are Favas with Entrecosto and Jardineira
- Wednesdays are traditional Portuguese Stew
- on Thursdays the house specialty, Pernil (reservations are recommended)
- on Fridays you can try Arroz de Cabidela and Piano no Forno
The portions are always very generous, and I ‘m proud of the waiters, who are always very friendly and on hand to help with any refills.
Address: Rua Carlos Mardel 115 (Alameda)
Das Flores Restaurant
Located very close to Largo de Camões, this is one of the smallest taverns, but always with delicious food, that we’ve had the opportunity to try.
And it doesn’t even need a name! Just search for “restaurant Das Flores” and it’ll come up.
Take down the phone number because you’ll really need to book a table if you want to eat here, in a space that fits just over 20 people, 22 to be precise.
As for the dishes, our suggestion is the Meat Croquettes with Tomato Rice. They’re small, they always come warm to the table and they’re some of the most delicious we’ve ever eaten.
If you order them individually, don’t forget to add a little mustard on top.
Address: Rua das Flores 76 (Chiado)
Balcão do Marquês
Balcão do Marquês is very close to the Marquês de Pombal. It ‘s not exactly a tavern, but it serves typical Portuguese dishes at authentic tavern prices. That’s why it’s on this list.
Every day you have a choice of four dishes, fish, meat and a popular one, which can start at €6.95. If you want to opt for the menu of the day, it costs €10.30 and includes the dish of the day + drink or soup + coffee or pastel de nata.
Address: Avenida Duque de Loulé 113-119 (Marquês)
O Trevo
For many years, Lisboners have been passing by this bifanas tavern just opposite Largo de Camões.
Some say that the grilled prego is still better than the bifana, but that’s another discussion.
If you fancy a change, there are other options too, such as the Bitoque à Trevo, the omelettes, the garnished alheira or the dishes of the day, which are always different and priced under €10.
Address: Praça Luís de Camões 48
Água no Bico
In the Pólo Cultural das Gaivotas you’ll find a nice garden with a nice restaurant.
You’ll find everything here: vegetarian cuisine, culture, Vhils and a delicious menu of the day for 10 euros.
Address: Rua das Gaivotas 8 (Santa Catarina)
Pato Real
Famous for its family-sized cakes, Pato Real – Royal Duck to friends and regulars – is also a good bet for Portuguese comfort food, and the steak and French fries we love, which once cost just 6 euros.
Add to that an imperial and a coffee and you’ve had lunch.
Address: Avenida de Berna 37 (Praça de Espanha)
Bio Vegetarian Restaurant
This is our second vegetarian on the list! A good veggie, with appetizing food and very well prepared. So you’re bound to have a full belly.
The prices are, as always, very inviting and wallet-friendly.
Address: Rua Francisco Sanches 39 (Arroios)
Cistercian Confectionery
Open since 1838, Cister never disappoints. Famous for being a confectionery and pastry shop, it is also an excellent option for a pleasant and appetizing lunch, with very cheap menus.
It is said that Eça de Queirós used to go there for his coffee, and so can you.
Address: Rua da Escola Politécnica 101 – 107 (Príncipe Real)
Saga
We’ve already realized that all the pastry shops in the city serve lunch, and Saga is no exception.
Despite being one of the youngest on this list (it opened in 2016), it has already earned a place in our bellies, with very affordable menus under €10.
Address: Largo da Graça 134 (Graça)
Ghoroa
There are many Indian restaurants, but this is one of our favorites and has the friendliest waiters in Lisbon.
There are two lunch menus, one for vegetarians and one for omnivores. The first includes a vegetable curry, rice, a drink and a coffee. The second has the same options, but the main course is a delicious chicken curry.
You can try it inside or on the small terrace between 12pm and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
Address: Travessa do Benformoso 2 (Intendente)
House of India
The specialty is roast chicken, but here you’ll find a bit of everything that’s good about traditional Portuguese cuisine, from grilled fish to a special steak for two (can you imagine?).
Then there are always the dishes of the day, especially the grilled dishes, as well as a range of delicious desserts, which you can accompany with a cup of coffee.
Address: Rua do Loreto 49-51 (Chiado)
