A new visit by the highest Pontiff of the Catholic Church to our country is scheduled for July 2027, with Pope Leo XIV visiting the Sanctuary of Fátima (and other places still under discussion) on an apostolic trip to the Iberian Peninsula.
The “excuse” will be the celebration of the 110th anniversary of the Apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the three little shepherds in 1917, which is expected to take place on July 24, 2027.

Diplomatic sources confirm that the Vatican is still finalizing the details of the new Pope’s visit to Portugal, but nothing has been officially confirmed as of this writing.
However, expectations about his arrival are very high since the Jacobean Holy Year will also be celebrated in Santiago de Compostela, next door in Spain, in 2027.
There is also a strong desire for Pope Leo XIV to visit Portugal, which he has publicly expressed in several audiences with Portuguese representatives.
If this happens, it will be the eighth time a Pope has visited our country in recent years.
