The iconic Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries), located next to our wonderful Tagus River, will be closed for refurbishment and maintenance work from December 16.
The work will involve an investment of around 150,000 euros, and it is expected to reopen in three months’ time, possibly in March or April.
The intervention in the Monument to the Discoveries aims to guarantee the preservation of this important historical and cultural landmark, which pays homage to the Portuguese navigators and the period of the Great Discoveries.
During this period, the monument will be inaccessible to visitors, but the Education Service will continue to operate, offering a range of educational activities aimed at the region’s educational institutions.
Among all the initiatives planned, the most noteworthy are the workshop-visits aimed at pre-school students and students from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, and these activities will be carried out directly in the schools.
