Filming has begun on *Operation TAP*, Netflix’s first film made in Portugal.
The platform announced this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the start of filming, directed by João Nuno Pinto, the filmmaker behind *Mosquito* and *18 Buracos para o Paraíso*.
The film is loosely based on real events: the hijacking of a TAP flight in 1980, led by a 16-year-old boy.
The story: a night of hostages

Netflix describes it as an adventure with an ’80s vibe and a modern pace, blending suspense and emotion to tell the story of how a night of fear ended up turning into something no one expected.
In 1980, an armed teenager hijacks a plane to Madrid and demands $10 million.
Passengers and crew members become hostages during a night of tension and uncertainty. But what begins as a threat of violence ultimately reveals an unexpected story of empathy and humanity between the young hijacker and those he holds hostage.

The streaming giant has not yet announced the premiere date.
