Living in Lisbon means enjoying a vibrant cultural calendar, often with free events, allowing every Lisbon resident to enjoy a variety of activities. For music lovers, FNAC Live is one of the highlights of May. But there are also options for architecture and heritage enthusiasts with the return of Open House Lisbon.
Now in its 15th edition, the cultural initiative takes place this weekend on May 9 and 10 ( Saturday and Sunday, respectively). This year, the event is held under the theme “On Architecture and Food,” curated by historian Anísio Franco and architect Mariana Sanchez Salvador.
More than 70 venues to visit

Open House Lisbon challenges visitors to explore 77 spaces, including some that would normally be off-limits. Since this year’s theme navigates between architecture and food, several gastronomic venues are participating in the initiative, such as:
- Cervejaria Trindade
- The Ribeira Market
- A Conserveira de Lisboa
- O Galeto
- Fábrica dos Pastéis de Belém, among many others.
From monuments to private apartments
Through guided tours led by architects and other experts in urban planning and heritage, Open House Lisboa is, literally, an open-door initiative to some of the city’s most iconic —and also “ hidden treasures .”
In the 15th edition of the initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to visit private apartments, gardens, and monuments such as the Jerónimos Monastery, the Ajuda National Palace, and the Alverca Palace—Casa do Alentejo, among others.
How to participate?
Admission to all venues is completely free, but in some cases , advance registration may be required. Therefore , we strongly recommend that you check the full program to avoid surprises or unnecessary inconvenience before leaving home.
