Octopus fans, take note: there’s a menu featuring over 65 dishes to try in the West, at the 17th Octopus Gastronomic Fortnight in Lourinhã, from May 8 to 22.
For 15 days, this small village full of “dinosaurs”will once again become the capital of this incredible marine mollusk we love so much, which can be enjoyed at around 25 restaurants in a wide variety of forms, from grilled to in a fresh salad.
From traditional dishes to bold innovations

With the perfect excuse for a spring getaway, this is truly the kind of culinary event that makes anyone’s mouth water. So, if octopus is often your first choice whenever you go out for lunch or dinner, Lourinhã has the ideal plan for the coming weeks of May.
Between May 8 and 22, you’ll be able to choose from 65 exclusive octopus recipes, prepared especially for this fortnight by a panel of 25 local restaurants.
The selection has been designed to suit all tastes, so you’ll find a little bit of everything, from the most traditional recipes to contemporary and signature approaches that explore new textures and flavor combinations with this tender seafood.
Far beyond the table: a guide to the region

The success of this event, which has been held for 17 years, is due to many other factors, particularly geographical ones and the great appeal of the Lourinhã area, which invite visitors to slow down and turn their meals into an excuse to explore other parts of the region.
In this regard, just a short distance from Lourinhã, you’ll find a wide variety of beaches bathed by the Atlantic, about 12 kilometers of coastline, perfect for a stroll along the shore or, perhaps, the first swim of the year.
We also know that some restaurants will offer live music to accompany their octopus tastings; if you appreciate this kind of extra service, mark these locations and dates on your calendar:
- A Gosto Brewery
- 100 Pratus (Praia da Areia Branca)
- Solmar & Terrace (Areia Branca Beach)
- Castelo Restaurant (Lourinhã)
