Did you know that you don’t have to leave Lisbon to taste one of the best specialty coffees in the world? With six stores open in the Portuguese capital, The Folks (88th place) appears for the second consecutive year in “The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops.”
The world ranking was announced on Monday, February 16, at CoffeeFest, taking place in Madrid. Among the 100 award-winning cafés, there is another Portuguese establishment: 7g Roaster ( Vila Nova de Gaia), which appears in 30th place.
How is the ranking compiled?
The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops is the result of a mixed system that combines the evaluation of more than 800 professional experts from all continents with a public vote, which in this second edition exceeded 350,000.
In total, more than 15,000 coffee shops around the world were analyzed, based on some of the following criteria:
- Coffee quality
- Staff experience
- Customer service
- Innovation
- Ambience and atmosphere
- Sustainable practices
- Quality of food and pastries
- Consistency

Open to the public since 2022, The Folks has six establishments in Lisbon: Santos, Rua dos Bacalhoeiros, Rua das Pedras Negras, Alfama, Chiado, and Belém.
