Summer is one of the favorite times of the year for many Portuguese (and not only), due to the possibility of doing countless outdoor activities such as watching movies under the stars, diving into swimming pools and walking (a lot). However, it’s also the perfect time to observe fantastic astronomical phenomena such as meteor showers.
In July and August, you’ll have the chance to see not one, but three meteor showers. However, visibility always depends on the weather conditions and where you are. In other words, the further away from major urban centers, the better. After all, there’s no better place than the countryside to gaze at the night sky.

3 meteor showers not to be missed
So that you don’t miss a thing, we’ve put together a short and handy list of the three meteor showers scheduled for July and August.
Southern Delta Aquarius
Expected to be active from July 18 to August 12, its peak should be on July 29 and 30. Under ideal conditions, this star shower usually has a regularity of 20 meteors per hour. However, this phenomenon is more easily visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

Alpha Capricornids
From July 12 to August 12, the Alpha Capricornids will shine in the sky, although less frequently than the Southern Delta Aquariids. It averages just 5 meteors per hour. Its peak activity is scheduled for July 29 and 30.

Perseids
The Perseids (July 17 to August 24) are undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited meteor showers of the year due to their high intensity – up to 100 meteors per hour during their peak (scheduled for the night of August 12 to 13).
