Soccer stirs passions all over the world and in Portugal this sport is experienced with great intensity. In fact, there’s news that promises to send many fans into a state of euphoria: Lisbon will host matches in the 2030 World Cup.
The confirmation came this Wednesday, December 11, from the FIFA Extraordinary Congress in Zurich, Switzerland. As a result, Portugal, Spain and Morocco are preparing for a joint staging of the world’s biggest team competition, under the slogan “Yalla Vamos”.
World Cup 2030 and the matches in Portugal
In all, three Portuguese stadiums will host matches in the 2030 World Cup:
- Estádio da Luz
- José Alvalade Stadium, both in Lisbon
- Estádio do Dragão, in Porto.
It should also be noted that the Estádio da Luz, home of Benfica, will host one of the semi-finals. The final of the competition will be played in Spain, probably at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.
Other information
Another important aspect to note is that the 2030 World Cup will also pass through Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, as a way of marking the centenary of the sporting event.
