Known for its “Seven Hills”, centuries-old history and excellent gastronomy, Lisbon continues to make the Portuguese proud and visitors passionate. For the sixth time, the capital received the distinction of “Best City Break Destination in Europe” at the World Travel Awards, held on October 22 (Wednesday) in Sardinia, Italy.
Lisbon regained the title that had gone to Athens (Greece) last year. However, this was not the only award won by Portugal at the so-called ‘Oscars of Tourism’ 2025. In fact, from north to south of the country, there were more than 30 awards. However, the main highlight was Portugal’s election as “Best Destination in Europe 2025”.
In a statement sent to Lisboa Secreta, Carlos Abade, President of Turismo de Portugal, said:
(…) It is the consolidation of an outstanding position that the country has been building up in a sustained way, and it serves as an incentive for us to permanently continue to qualify our destinations and our offer and to innovate.”

More awards at the World Travel Awards
From hotels to tour operators, not forgetting attractions. The ‘Oscars of Tourism’ once again honored, for example, the Paiva Walkways in the adventure category for the eighth time in a row since 2018.
Aquashow in Quarteira (Algarve) received the award for “Best Water Park in Europe” and Dark Sky Alqueva reinforced its position as a benchmark in the field of responsible tourism.
“Ah Amalia” (an immersive experience paying tribute to Amália Rodrigues) was considered the best novelty of the year. However, the list contains many more mentions, so we recommend that you consult all the winners on the official World Travel Awards website.
