Thesummer is synonymous with vacations, family fun and long days. During this period, there are those who can’t live without bathing in the beaches. However, there are also those who prefer to stay away from the sand. If this is your case, how about a getaway to visit a mountain water park?
Although it’s a long way from Lisbon, more than 365 km if you take the A1, here’s a tip for an indoor alternative for your vacation. Despite the existence of water parks in and around Lisbon, this portuguese northern spot is a real tourist attraction.
What’s so special about it? This is considered to be the largest mountain water park on the Iberian Peninsula. .. And indeed, the numbers are staggering, with a total area of 44,000 m2. Around here, there’s a bit of everything and fun for all ages.
What’s new for summer 2024
Located in the municipality of Amarante, in the district of Porto, the space is part of a tourist complex called the Tamega Club. In addition to its size, the northern spot stands out for its wide range of activities, capable of pleasing kids and adults alike.
With a breathtaking view, the Amarante Water Park has 20 attractions, including seven swimming pools, green spaces, restaurant options and even accommodation within its tourist complex. Even so, the offer has recently been reinforced.
In all, the new features for summer 2024 have resulted in an investment of around two million euros, including::
- Monster Lotus: a 135m mega-slide;
- Vertigo: an attraction unsuitable for those with a fear of heights, but perfect for those who like to feel an adrenaline rush; it is 15m high and 44m long, challenging visitors to ‘dive’ down a freefall;
- Waterfall pool: a little hidden corner;
- Foam parties: taking place every day, among others.
Other attractions & information
With 30 years of existence, the Parque Aquático de Amarante has its own spaces for children and adults children such as small slides and colorful areas.
In addition, there are other attractions that are worth highlighting and are already a kind of classic, such as:
- Space Hole – a 65m slide that makes you spin;
- Compact Slide – 94 m long;
- Aquatube – open tube over 95 m.
If you’re thinking of adding this destination to your summer vacation, then it’s worth mentioning that the space is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until September 15.
As far as prices are concerned, a online ticket office presents more economical values, although dynamic. To begin with, children up to the age of four are free.
Children between the ages of five and 11, as well as seniors (over 65), pay from €9.95 (online). Visitors between the ages of 12 and 64 have tickets starting at €14.95 (online).
