The beginning of October saw the return to the city of Lisbon of the “Amarelo” project, a free school transport service operated by Carris and accompanied by specialized monitors. It is already serving more than 11 parishes and promises to reach more areas of the capital later this year.
Choosing this service, which is free for children aged 5 to 11, has a number of advantages for both them and their parents:
- It gives children autonomy and confidence;
- It provides a safe and fun journey to school;
- Facilitates all family logistics;
- It helps to reduce traffic (and pollution) in the city, making it possible to build a more sustainable city.

Parishes currently covered
“Amarelo” connects children to their schools every morning on Carris buses, with on-board monitors who ensure the journey from start to finish.
And the 2025-2026 school year has begun with even more parishes where it is already possible to catch the “Yellow”:
- Alcântara: 73B
- Arroios: 17B
- Belém: 79B
- Benfica: 71B + 72B
- Campo de Ourique: 64B
- Estrela: 67B
- Lumiar: 45B
- Olivais: 29B
- Parque das Nações: 26B
- Penha de França: 37B
- Santa Clara: 40B
Each of these routes includes the presence of monitors who will accompany the pre-school, primary and secondary school pupils along the entire route. You can check all the stops on the Lisbon City Council website.

Find out how to take part
To use this free “Yellow” school transport, you need to register in advance on the service’s official website, on the route you want to take.
In addition to registration, parents can also consult this site:
- The participating schools;
- The routes available;
- Maps and timetables;
- And other up-to-date information on future stops.

The “Amarelo” project is extremely important for mobility in the city of Lisbon, as it tends to reduce traffic in the vicinity of the schools covered, as well as reducing the ecological footprint and teaching all children more sustainable and safe travel habits from an early age.
