It’s in Lisbon that Fontaines D.C. kick off their new European tour. The Irish band takes the stage at the MEO Arena this Wednesday, October 21, at 8 p.m., for the first in a series of concerts that concludes on November 27 at the O2 in London. They’re coming here with a new album: “Dopamine Chamber” was released on Friday, October 16.
The concert at the MEO Arena
This is the first time the band will perform at the MEO Arena, the country’s largest concert venue. After Lisbon, the tour will head to cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris, before arriving in the United Kingdom in late November.
As this is the “Dopamine Chamber” tour, the setlist is expected to feature new tracks alongside songs from previous albums. Opening the night will be Chalk, a British band accompanying Fontaines D.C. throughout the entire tour. For every ticket sold, 1 euro (after taxes) will be donated to War Child UK, an organization that supports children affected by war, according to the promoter Everything Is New.
“Dopamine Chamber,” the album released on Friday
It’s the band’s fifth album and follows 2024’s “Romance.” It was released by XL and was once again produced by James Ford, who had already worked on the previous album; recording took place in London, the English countryside, and Palermo, Italy, according to Under the Radar.
The guitars from their early albums give way to a cooler atmosphere, and the album revolves around how pleasure changes in the face of danger, according to Echo Boomer. Before the release, the band previewed three songs: “Marianne,” “Tongue,” and “Where Is Gone?,” featuring Rosalía. This duet with the Spanish singer is Fontaines D.C.’s first song featuring a guest vocalist.
From poems in Dublin to the top of the charts
The five members—Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan, and Tom Coll—met in Dublin, where they studied at BIMM, a music school. They shared a love of poetry and even published books of poems. The name has two origins: Johnny Fontane, the singer from *The Godfather*, and the initials of Dublin City, added after they discovered a Los Angeles band with the same name, according to Far Out.
They made their debut in 2019 with “Dogrel,” and three years later, “Skinty Fia” earned them their first number-one hit in the UK. They won the Brit Award for Best International Group in 2023 and 2025 and have been nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album. In Portugal, they performed at Paredes de Coura in 2024 and at Primavera Sound Porto in 2025.
