The Pharmacy Museum will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz with a unique exhibition and film series, in an unprecedented show about the Holocaust.
The initiative will begin on January 31 at 8:30 p.m. with the opening of the exhibition, which brings together historical pieces related to the genocide perpetrated by the Nazi regime.
Objects with unimaginable symbolism
Among all the items you’ll be able to see there, many of them iconic and priceless, we highlight the “half a train ticket”; a “piece of clothing worn by Auschwitz prisoners with the Star of David”; the “label of a can of Zyklon B”, which was the pesticide used in the gas chambers; as well as other documents related to the arrest and capture of Nazis.
Many of these pieces of memorabilia were donated by relatives of Holocaust and World War II survivors, and many others were acquired at auctions.
This exhibition on Auschwitz also includes photographs provided by an American pharmacist who was present at the opening of the Buchenwald concentration camp.
Over the years, the Pharmacy Museum has endeavored to contribute to a better understanding of universal history, incorporating through donations, acquiring and exhibiting various pieces that help us not to forget remarkable moments like this,” says João Neto, director of the Pharmacy Museum.
On the day of the opening, the acclaimed film “Schindler’s List” will also be shown, marking the start of a film cycle that will continue until next year, as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the National Association of Pharmacies and the 30th anniversary of the Pharmacy Museum.
Before the opening, on January 30 at 6pm, there will be an audience dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, in a debate with writer Esther Mucznik, a specialist in Jewish themes, and international analyst Helena Ferro Gouveia, moderated by João Neto.
