Scheduled for completion by the end of October, floor renovation work is currently underway at the Praça de Espanha station on the Lisbon Metro.
Although the station will remain operational throughout the project, there will be a phased closure of the platforms in both directions, with the goal of completely renovating the station’s flooring, including the north concourse, the south concourse, and the platforms.
What’s changing and when?
In the first phase, between July 20 and August 10:
- The platform for trainsheading toward Santa Apolónia will be closed, and trains bound for Santa Apolónia will not stop at Praça de Espanha during this period. The closure will begin in the early hours of July 19–20 and will last for three weeks.
In the second phase, between August 10 and 31:
- The platform bound for Santa Apolónia will reopen, and the platform bound for Reboleira will be closed. Trains bound for Reboleira will also no longer stop at the station during this period.
Other changes: concourses and elevators
Due to the construction work, the North Concourse will be closed starting June 29, with reopening scheduled for July 27, when the new elevators will also begin operating .
The South Concourse is also scheduled to close starting August 24, meaning that the ticket office will be moved to the North Concourse, which will be equipped with the new elevator.
To avoid major inconveniences, Metropolitano de Lisboa suggests that you check in advance which platform is closed before heading to the Praça de Espanha station; nearby, the Jardim Zoológico and São Sebastião stations are the best alternatives for your trips.
