I don’t know if you’ve been down Rua da Boavista lately, but whenever we go there it always smells good, thanks in no small part to the many restaurants here, making this one of the “smelliest” streets in our city. And it looks like it’s going to become even more accessible, with redevelopment works that aim to improve its sidewalks and wooded areas.
The statement came from the Misericórdia Parish Council, which says that from June 30 (Monday) this iconic street will begin its transformation process into a more modern, accessible street with a better quality of urban life.
Greener, safer and more accessible
The requalification and improvement works will be divided into two phases, from Largo do Conde Barão to the intersection with Rua da Moeda, and then onto Calçada Salvador Correia de Sá.
The aim is to standardize the sidewalks, level the intersections, improve accessibility for people with reduced mobility, create new leisure areas and add even more trees and green spaces, enhancing the emblematic Bica dos Olhos, which was recently renovated.
These works are taking place at a time when preparations are also being made for the return of the streetcar to Rua da Boavista, currently suspended due to metro works in the Santos area.
The works on Rua da Boavista are expected to take 90 days and may be altered if weather conditions allow, and the parish council thanks all residents and traders for their understanding in the event of any temporary inconvenience.
