Throughout the month of July, Avenida da Liberdade transforms into an art gallery spread across shops, hotels, restaurants, and offices. This is the third edition of Art in Avenida, which brings works by 17 artists from the National Society of Fine Arts to 15 venues along one of Lisbon’s most iconic avenues, with free admission.
A partnership between Avenida and the National Society of Fine Arts
The event is organized by the Avenida Association, which has over 150 members and aims to showcase the commercial and cultural offerings of Avenida da Liberdade, with curation by the National Society of Fine Arts (SNBA), an institution founded in 1901 and headquartered at the Palácio das Belas Artes, on Rua Barata Salgueiro—a building designed by architect Álvaro Machado and inaugurated in 1913. Following two successful previous editions, this third edition is even more ambitious: more artists, more participating venues, and more days to explore the avenue’s artistic side, which this year spans the entire month of July.
What you’ll find along the way

The exhibition route brings together original works of painting, photography, collage, and sculpture, displayed in shops, hotels, restaurants, offices, and a gallery, transforming each of these spaces into a small stage for contemporary Portuguese art.
