Anyone passing by Rua Heliodoro Salgado is unlikely to notice it. The Monte Agudo Lookout is hidden behind the Dona Luísa de Gusmão High School and is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. It was built in the 1950s, yet it remains little known.
A hidden shortcut between Graça and Anjos
The viewpoint is located between Graça and Anjos and can serve as a shortcut: it connects Rua Heliodoro Salgado to Rua Ilha do Príncipe, from where you climb a flight of stairs. At the top, you can spend hot days under a pergola, and there’s a kiosk where you can order a drink.

Views, sunset, and a drink at the kiosk
From here, you can see mainly the northern and western parts of Lisbon, in a panoramic view of about 180 degrees stretching from the Tagus to Avenidas Novas, according to the Lisbonne Idée guide.
As the sun sets, the Monsanto hill appears on the horizon, and that’s when most people make their way up here to toast, according to Visão.
Simo’s Kiosk
It’s called Simo’s and serves coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, toast, natural wines, and cocktails. To get up there, you can take a steep street or the stairs.
