Starting October 15, there’s a new development for taxi rides departing from Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon. And no, contrary to the trend of price increases in various sectors, the situation here is the opposite. In other words, a zone-based pricing structure has been established to eliminate any surprises at the end of the ride. Thus, a ride may cost 16 euros in Zone 1 and 19 euros in Zone 2 during the day, with different rates applying at night.
According to an article in the newspaper Público, the agreement was signed on September 11, involving the Lisbon City Council, the Portuguese Taxi Federation, and the National Association of Road Transport by Light Vehicles. ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL) are also involved in this cooperation and self-regulation agreement.
How much does it cost and what’s included?

According to available information, the fares are divided into two zones. Zone 1, which covers the parishes closest to Lisbon Airport — Alvalade, Areeiro, Avenidas Novas, Beato, Lumiar, Marvila, Olivais, Parque das Nações, Penha de França, and Santa Clara —, costs 16 euros during the day (7:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m., weekdays) and 20 euros at night, on weekends, and on holidays.
Zone 2, which includes Ajuda, Alcântara, Arroios, Belém, Benfica, Campolide, Campo de Ourique, Carnide, Estrela, Misericórdia, Santa Maria Maior, Santo António, São Domingos de Benfica, and São Vicente, costs 19 euros during the day and 23 euros at night and on non-business days.
For vehicles with a capacity of more than four passengers, the fares rise to 20 or 23 euros during the day (Zone 1 and Zone 2, respectively) and to 24 or 28 euros outside daytime hours and on holidays. According to Expresso, all prices already include surcharges for luggage, reservations, waiting time, and transporting animals.
Payment can be made directly in an accredited taxi, by credit card or MB Way, or via an ATL voucher in the arrivals area —without any surcharge regardless of the method chosen. This prohibition on additional charges is one of the new provisions outlined in the protocol.
Access to the arrivals level is also changing: only authorized taxis will be allowed to enter the pickup area , a measure aimed at reducing the presence of unlicensed drivers and organizing the service outside the airport.
