Over the next four weekends, the Cristo Rei Shrine in Alto do Pragal will be open until 9:00 p.m., offering all visitors a breathtaking view of the city of Lisbon and the Tagus River, this time at sunset.
This is the first time the doors of the enormous sanctuary in Almada have stayed open later, encouraging visits during “cooler” hours, away from the high summer temperatures.
The idea is simple: to avoid visits during the hottest part of the day, swapping the intense sun for the cooler late-afternoon breeze— at least on Fridays and Saturdays, when the doors stay open until 9 p.m.
Much more than just the view

If you choose these times, you’ll find all the services available on a normal visiting day, and the well-known sanctuary—an incredible Lisbon viewpoint— guarantees all its usual amenities, operating at full capacity for the total convenience of its visitors.
So, every Friday and Saturday in July and August, you’ll be able to enjoy:
- Access to the observation deck and elevator
- Chapel
- Cafeteria and shops
