Scheduled to open at the end of 2026, Surfers Cove will be the first “Surf Village” in the European Union and the first wave pool in Portugal. It is already being built in Óbidos, close to some of the most important surf spots in the country, especially Peniche, Nazaré, Ericeira and an hour from Lisbon.
This authentic “Surf Village” promises to revolutionize the sport with the most renowned Wavegarden technology, which has been proven in several countries, from various geographical latitudes, such as the United Kingdom, Scotland, Switzerland, Australia, Brazil, South Korea and the United States of America.
Planned to be operational in November next year (2026), you can already buy tickets to be one of the first to surf one of the 1,000 waves that this artificial pool is capable of generating per hour, whether you’re a beginner or a high-performance surfer.
Manuel Maria Vasconcelos , co-founder and CEO of Surfers Cove, emphasizes that
Surfers Cove wants to be the leading surf destination in Europe, where experience and authenticity go hand in hand, inspiring families, surfers and a community united around surfing and beach culture.”
The future of the “perfect wave”

Imagine a future in which you don’t have to depend on the tides, the winds or the unpredictability of the ocean to improve your surfing. This is the vision that the exclusive Wavegarden technology enables and brings to the future Surfers Cove in Óbidos.
Surfers Cove will therefore not just be an artificial wave park; it will be the platform that will enable the evolution of many surfers and athletes, while at the same time distinguishing itself as a leisure model that democratizes access to the practice of this water sport in our country.
Marcelo Martins, Surf Operations Manager, says that
Surfers Cove was designed to open up surfing to everyone, from first timers to competitive athletes. By providing a safe and predictable environment, we are able to democratize access, create more opportunities for beginners and, at the same time, nurture new talent. Training in this environment allows for repetition and consistency, which are impossible at sea, accelerating technical progression and increasing our client’s success and satisfaction.”

According to Josema Odriozola, Founder and CEO of Wavegarden,
Surfers Cove will incorporate our latest technological features to provide surfers with the best possible experience. It will be one of the first commercial facilities in the world to integrate our side shore designs for enhanced performance and aesthetics, offering an experience that comes close to the feeling of surfing in the ocean.”
Wave pool + 4-star tourist resort

The tourism and surfing sector will soon changewith the presentation of this paradise for surfers from all over the world, which brings much more than just the fun of catching waves.
According to Manuel Maria Vasconcelos, co-founder and CEO of Surfers Cove,
The Surf Village aims to be a milestone for tourism and surfing in Portugal, creating a destination that combines technology, nature and hospitality , accessible to all. It was conceived as an inclusive space that complements the ocean, guarantees consistent waves for all levels of surfers thanks to the Wavegarden Cove technology, while providing an authentic, memorable and complete experience through the 4-star tourist village. Thus, visitors can enjoy both a day of surfing and an extended stay, designed to offer evolution, leisure and well-being. The support of COMPETE 2030 was decisive in making the private investors’ initiative viable, allowing them to invest in Wavegarden’s cutting-edge technology, in the development of complementary sports activities to support surfing, as well as in the construction of the Tourist Village.“
That’s right, the innovative wave park is joined by an all-in-onetourist complex that will allow all lovers of this sport to fully enjoy an all-inclusive space, with the added bonus of focusing on exclusive technology and sustainability.

Since this is a “controlled” wave park, the environment for beginners is free from the unpredictable dangers of the ocean, with waves “created” to suit each surfer , whether beginner or more experienced, fulfilling the purpose of democratizing surfing for all ages, from the first wave to high competition.
It is for this very purpose that the Surf Academywill also be created , a surf school with structured plans ranging from beginner level to high performance, with the right “recipes” to create the champions of tomorrow, with the advantages of a training model that can only be maintained in a wave park of this kind.
More than surfing, a new leisure and wellness destination for everyone

The “Surf Village” will be a four-star destination, through a tourist development of excellence that offers a maximum capacity of 144 beds, distributed over 56 accommodation units of various types, especially in the T0, T1 and T2 bungalowformats .
The complex will also house a restaurant, the 58 Surf store, skatepark, paddle tennis courts, beach tennis, gym, surf school and several green areas with spaces for corporate events, in what could be a true leisure and wellness destination for families, tourists and athletes.
Secure your place in history and be one of the first to surf this wave

Did you know that Kanoa Igarashi, one of the WSL’s Top 7 surfers, is one of Surfers Cove’s investors? This means that one of the WSL’s top athletes believes in the technology and qualities of these waves.
That’s also why we have no doubt that Surfers Cove will write the next chapter of surfing in Europe, and you can be one of the first to live this incredible experience.
The first surf sessions won’t take place until after the inauguration, at the end of 2026 , but you can already secure one of the places in the first sessions.
