The 15th storm of the year is called Olivier and is forecast to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail from next Thursday, April 10.
And this comes after a cozy improvement in the weather, where the sun has shone again, bringing with it summer temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius.
We can even say that Portugal is under the influence of extreme and variable weather conditions, where the famous Saharan dust is even predicted to appear.
Storm Olivier forecast
The new depression has the same name as a famous restaurant chain in Lisbon (we love this one, this one and this one too), but good things are not expected from Olivier.
While today, April 8, Lisbon is still enjoying mild temperatures of 24-25°C, in two days everything will change, with Portugal being hit by adverse conditions with heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail forecast in several regions of the country, with the greatest impact in the center and south of the territory.
For Thursday, the sky is expected to be very cloudy, with showers starting in the morning in the south, gradually spreading to the other regions from the afternoon onwards, which may occasionally be hail and accompanied by thunderstorms. A slight drop in the maximum temperature is also forecast.
On Friday and Saturday, rain will fall with greater incidence, and the Lisbon district could accumulate between 50 and 80 mm of rainfall.
For Sunday, the forecast is similar, with the possibility of snow in the Serra da Estrela.
How should you prepare?
It’s not yet safe to say that Storm Olivier could last until Easter, but until then, in addition to following all the preparations related to precipitation and sea turbulence, you should bear in mind that Saharan dust can cause some respiratory problems, so it’s recommended that you avoid it or protect yourself with masks.
