
Heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are the forecasts for storm Nuria, the first of April and the 14th of the year, which will affect the whole country, including the Azores and Madeira islands.
According to the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA), all districts are under a yellow warning on Friday, April 4, with adverse weather conditions expected until at least Saturday.

“Named” depression Nuria by AEMET (Spanish State Meteorological Agency), this storm is associated with a cold frontal surface centered to the west of the Iberian Peninsula, moving slowly northwards.
In Portugal, periods of rain or heavy showers are expected, accompanied by thunderstorms, especially on Friday; strong winds may gust up to 70 km/h in the highlands; the possibility of snowfall in the highest points; and a drop in the maximum temperature.
In the Greater Lisbon area, generally very cloudy skies are forecast, with cloudiness decreasing from the afternoon onwards; periods of rain or showers, decreasing in frequency from the afternoon onwards; weak to moderate wind (up to 30 km/h) from the south quadrant, blowing moderate to strong (30 to 40 km/h) on the coastal strip until the end of the afternoon; and a drop in temperature, especially the maximum.

How should you prepare?
Due to this weather situation, yellow warnings have already been issued for sea turbulence, as well as orange warnings for wind and precipitation.
In view of these adverse weather conditions, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warns of potential risks:
- Flooding in urban areas and flooding in watercourses;
- Landslides and landslides;
- Dangerous road conditions due to sheets of water, ice or snow;
- Accidents on the coast caused by strong sea waves;
- Damage caused by objects swept away by strong winds.
In the same press release, ANEPC recommends various safety measures:
- Unblocking rainwater drainage systems;
- Proper securing of loose structures such as scaffolding and scoreboards;
- Avoid driving through wooded areas and along coastlines;
- Drive defensively and avoid roads affected by snow;
- Pay attention to weather reports and follow the instructions of the authorities.
The population is also advised to stay informed and follow the recommendations of the competent authorities to ensure safety during this period of adverse weather conditions.
