Starting today, Lisbon’s doors are open to the cosmos: you can now visit the immersive exhibition “Smithsonian Journey Through the Cosmos,” where you’ll physically walk through solar storms, traverse volcanic exoplanets, and reach the edge of a supermassive black hole at the very moment it devours a star.
This is Fever’s latest venture in the city and marks a definitive break from the two-dimensional images found in astrophysics textbooks and static projections; on this “journey through the stars,” the universe is no longer merely observed but is experienced firsthand.
Thus, rather than a simple passive observation, the space has been designed to allow visitors to physically walk through the universe, in an environment that recreates with scientific precision phenomena such as supernovae, exoplanets, and the visual impact of solar storms.
Developed in partnership with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), the exhibition transports the public to a scale beyond Earth, using real data captured by humanity’s most powerful observational instruments. The project integrates direct data from the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope, and the Chandra X-ray Observatory, with direct contributions from NASA and the ESA.
It is also worth noting that this exhibition was recently selected for the Venice Immersive competition at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival.
