NOS Alive has already confirmed its return to the Algés Seafront Promenade in 2027, on July 8, 9, and 10. The announcement was made by promoter Álvaro Covões at a press conference held at the venue early Saturday evening, the day the festival’s 18th edition came to a close.
A sold-out edition
The venue reached its maximum capacity of 56,000 people on Friday, and the same was expected for Saturday, the second sold-out day of this year’s festival. On Thursday, the first day of the festival, approximately 48,000 people had already passed through the venue, bringing the total over the three days to about 160,000 attendees.
Eight featured stages
With performances spread across eight stages—including one dedicated to literature and another to comedy—Álvaro Covões noted that this edition demonstrated that there is no single “main stage”: for the promoter, every stage and every artist had their moment in the spotlight, with top-notch performances spread throughout the venue.
The debut of the Literary Stage
One of the major highlights of this year’s festival was the new Literary Stage, which hosted conversations with Portuguese authors such as Valter Hugo Mãe, Pedro Chagas Freitas, Afonso Cruz, Luísa Sobral, and Hugo van Der Ding. Álvaro Covões considered this initiative a victory for Portuguese culture, emphasizing the importance of reading as one of the pillars of culture and expressing satisfaction that none of the invited authors had declined the invitation—unlike what, according to the promoter, sometimes happens in the music world.
Buraka Som Sistema closed out the festival
NOS Alive wrapped up the weekend with the return to the stage of Buraka Som Sistema, one of Portugal’s most internationally renowned bands, which had announced in the summer of 2015 that it would be taking an indefinite hiatus starting in 2016, after a decade dedicated to music with a more electronic sound. The group, responsible for bringing kuduro to dance floors around the world, has performed more than 800 concerts and released three albums and one EP. Buraka Som Sistema took the NOS Stage at 12:55 a.m. on Sunday.
