If you missed the incredible fireworks in Praça do Comércio, don’t worry. Lisbon’s sky has two special reasons to look up this weekend: the Quadrantids (the first meteor shower of 2026) and the Wolf’s Full Moon (the first Supermoon of the year).
The Quadrantids

According to the specialized website “Star Walk”, the Quadrantids will have their peak of activity on January 3 (Saturday), although they will appear in the sky until January 12. However, it should be noted that the visibility forecasts are not the best.
This is because the strong light of the Full Wolf Moon will extinguish most of the faint meteors. Therefore, only ten meteors per hour are expected to be visible. Even so, don’t despair, as January holds another shower of stars – the Gamma-Ursae Minorids, with peak activity scheduled for January 18, coinciding with the New Moon.
First Supermoon of 2026 lights up the Lisbon sky

The new year begins with an unmissable celestial spectacle: the first Supermoon of 2026, known as the “Wolf Moon”, will take over the sky on January 3.
This phenomenon stands out for its slightly larger diameter and more intense brightness, the result of the Moon’s proximity to perigee, around 362,000 kilometers from Earth. The name comes from the traditions of the indigenous peoples of North America, who associated the howling of wolves with freezing winter nights.
