Lisbon Metro has updated the schedule for the ongoing renovation work at Praça de Espanha station. The station will remain open throughout the construction, but with phased service restrictions: this Thursday, September 3, the platform bound for Santa Apolónia will reopen, while the platform bound for Reboleira will close.
What is reopening and when
The platform bound for Santa Apolónia has been closed since August 10—during which time trains bound for that destination did not stop at Praça de Espanha—and will reopen this Thursday, September 3. The North Concourse, meanwhile, reopened on August 17, with the new elevators already in operation.
What is still set to close
Conversely, the platform bound for Reboleira will be closed from September 3 to 28, with trains heading in that direction not stopping at the station during that period. Next up is work on the South Concourse, which will be closed from September 14 to October 12 for paving work.
How to work around the restrictions
During periods when one of the platforms is closed, the Lisbon Metro recommends that passengers use the Jardim Zoológico or São Sebastião stations as an alternative whenever possible.
Anyone who really wants to use Praça de Espanha can continue on the open platform to the next station and transfer to a train heading in the desired direction. The construction is part of the station’s renovation, which includes work on the flooring in the concourses and on the platforms, as well as improvements to accessibility.
