The last few weekends, with the closure of restaurants and cafés at lunchtime, have forced many businesses to reinvent themselves and their owners to find a solution to deal with this pandemic crisis, while at the same time doing everything they can to continue to retain their regular customers through other service formats, such as home delivery and take-away.
Two of the solutions they found were to create service moments outside their normal working hours, namely brunch events and even the return of the 5 o’clock tea.
Some even opted for a small dinner, as was the case with the Geographia restaurant, which took advantage of this critical time to present its menu in a tasting format.
So that you don’t waste any time looking for the best brunch and 5 o’clock tea services in the city, here’s a list of what’s currently on offer.
Make the most of them and enjoy yourself, in the knowledge that you’ll be helping a very important sector in our city.

Swedish-inspired brunch at Saraiva’s
Every Saturday in December, including the 24th, Saraiva’s is promoting a Swedish-inspired Christmas brunch by chef André Larsson.
This brunch is made up of three delicious tasting moments:
- the first is a yogurt/soy yogurt with fresh seasonal fruit and granola or oatmeal with pears, milk and cinnamon;
- in the second moment you can choose between scrambled eggs, onion soup or croquettes;
- and for the third you can have cured salmon, horseradish and cream cheese on toast, meatballs with beet and cucumber pickles or scrambled eggs on focaccia with roasted tomatoes.
As an extra, you can start your brunch with one of Saraiva’s exclusive cocktails: Mimosa, Bloody Mary or the cocktail of the day.
Tea at 5 inspired by the Portuguese queens at the Tivoli Palácio de Seteais
The Tivoli Palácio de Seteais has resumed the Five O’clock Tea ritual and has taken inspiration from three Portuguese monarchs, one of whom is considered to be the driving force behind the typical English custom, Queen D. Catarina de Bragança.
So you’ll have three different moments, with three different teas:
- the tribute to Queen Maria I of Portugal includes a selection of three pastries and Jasmin Queen tea, inspired by the gardens of Seteais;
- the second pays tribute to Queen Catarina of Bragança and consists of a selection of three pastries, scones with butter and jam and finger sandwiches, accompanied by Imperial Lapsang Souchong tea;
- finally, the option inspired by Queen Carlota Joaquina de Bourbon offers the same elements as the previous menu, but the highlight is French Earl Grey tea.
At the end, you’ll also be entitled to a Flûte of Moët & Chandon Champagne.
