Housed in the Palácio dos Condes de Alvor, in the parish of Estrela, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (MNAA), one of the most important museums in Lisbon, has announced in a statement that it will be closing its doors to the public due to building work.
According to the information available, the museum will close on September 29 as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. However, the reopening date is not known, as “it is conditioned by the timetable of this intervention process”, informs the MNAA.
Free admission and activities at the time of farewell
Although it’s not a definitive ‘goodbye’, the truth is that you won’t be able to visit the MNAA for a while. So take advantage of this week to go there, in particular, because admission is free until September 28 (Sunday).
In addition, the MNAA has prepared a special program for the whole family, taking place next Sunday from 10:00 to 16:45. There, you’ll find treasure hunts, themed guided tours and musical moments. However, you can check out the full list of activities here.
Home to countless national treasures
If you’ve never had the chance to visit the MNAA, you should know that it dates back to 1884 and is home to a vast collection of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts.
Its ‘treasures’ include pieces from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, as well as the largest collection of Portuguese furniture and the São Vicente Panels by Nuno Gonçalves, a masterpiece of 15th century painting.
