The news that the Lisbon Metro is preparing to reopen its toilets is a fact, as reported by Jornal de Notícias!
However, no dates have yet been set for when you can use them, for example, while waiting for the train.
If you remember, the toilets in the Lisbon Metro were closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, so as not to spread the virus to users of this urban public transport.
And if you remember, using these toilets required a payment of 30 cents.
Will this price remain the same, increase or even become free?
Stations with toilets
Campo Grande, Aeroporto, Marquês de Pombal and São Sebastião were the Lisbon Metro stations that previously provided toilets, and more than a dozen new openings were planned, but never materialized.
Metropolitano de Lisboa told Jornal de Notícias that
the launch of a procedure for the operation of toilets in stations is being evaluated, and it is estimated that it could be launched during the second half of 2024.”
The same news source also questioned how many toilets will be available in the future, as well as in which stations this will happen, but so far there has been no response, and all that is known is that a company external to Metro de Lisboa will be responsible for this management, including, of course, daily cleaning.
To answer the question: will they be paid again? We’ll have to wait and see!
