It’s a real two-for-one: this weekend, November 8 and 9, the Municipality of Oeiras will hold the traditional São Martinho magusto with 12 tons of chestnuts and, at the same time, inaugurate the Christmas lights.
The party will therefore be twofold, where the smell of roasted chest nuts will mingle with the glow of the first Christmas lights.
Free admission for the whole family
The traditional São Martinho festivities are returning to the municipality, and the organizers have spared no expense in their preparations: 12 tons of chestnuts are promised, which will be prepared on two imposing street grills.
To make sure you can make it, the traditional Magusto, which is free to enter, will take place in two central locations and on different dates, always between 11am and 10pm:
- Saturday, November 8
- meeting point at Largo 5 de Outubro
- Sunday, November 9th
- meeting point in Algés, occupying Anjos Park
To accompany the warm chestnuts, this year the municipality decided to pay homage to a local product: the emblematic Carcavelos wine “Villa Oeiras”.
The big surprise: a Christmas-lit São Martinho
The inauguration of the Christmas lights in Oeiras takes place on Saturday, November 8, at the same time as the magusto, in the historic center and in various streets throughout the municipality.
The anticipation of this date promises to give São Martinho an even more festive atmosphere, bringing together two seasons that are cherished by all Portuguese.
Address: Largo 5 de Outubro (November 8); Parque Anjos in Algés (November 9)
Hours: November 8 and 9, between 11am and 10pm
