River ferry service between Barreiro and Cacilhas (on the south bank of the Tagus) and Lisbon will have additional trips and new schedules starting this Monday, June 8. As reported by the newspaper Público, Transtejo Soflusa (TTSL) states that the goal is to meet passengers’ needs.
What’s changing in Cacilhas?
On weekdays, the first boat now departs at 5:00 a.m. (20 minutes earlier than before). The last trip has been extended to 2:30 a.m. ( 50 minutes later than the previous schedule). On weekends and holidays, there will now be four additional daily trips.
What’s changing in Barreiro?
In Barreiro, the changes apply to weekday mornings, with the addition of two daily trips. On weekends and holidays, the schedule remains the same.
Why these changes?
These measures are being implemented by Transtejo Soflusa (TTSL), and President Rui Ribeiro Rei explained that between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m., despite having a capacity for about 700 passengers, several ferries actually depart completely full. This expansion is intended to directly address this high demand.
