There’s a place in our city where you’ll find practically all the information you need about Lisbon. It’s the Lisboa Story Centre in Praça do Comércio, a place that takes you on an interactive journey through the history of the Portuguese capital.
We’re not going to tell you everything we saw there in this article. After all, the experience of going through the Lisboa Story Center only makes sense if you experience it first-hand. But we are going to tell you a few details that you really can’t miss.
Lisbon is rich in History, Culture and Myths
By now you should know that Lisbon is considered one of the oldest cities in the world and is even the second oldest capital, after Athens in Greece.
It’s therefore a metropolis rich in history and, consequently, also in culture, which you’ll often find at the Lisboa Story Center, where you can “dive” deep into its past through an interactive experience and, in certain areas, in a more immersive way. But we’re off!
Armed with an audio guide, which will give you all the information depending on where you are in the exhibition (using geopositioning technology), from the entrance to the exit you’ll pass through various stages in the history of our capital, from its beginnings to the present day, through a scenic route with various multimedia elements and even sensory experiences.
For example, when you pass the area that simulates the interior of a caravel from the Discoveries, you’ll be able to smell the spices that our navigators brought back from the Indies.
Further on, you’ll also pass through a closed room where you can watch a short film simulating what happened during the 1755 earthquake, which almost completely devastated the city.
An hour of pure knowledge
During the 60 minutes of this experience, you’ll pass through various themed sections that explore different aspects of the city’s history, including the myths about Lisbon’s foundation, its importance as a center of world trade during the Age of Discovery, and its architectural development after the tragedy of 1755, which turned it into what we see today.
This space, which is located at Lisbon’s main tourist attraction, not only serves to offer a more comprehensive knowledge of the capital, but is also equipped with educational material that inspires through the resilience of our city over the centuries.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast or just curious about Lisbon’s past, the Lisboa Story Centre promises an educational and unforgettable experience.
