Bordalo II, Artur Bordalo’s artistic name, has once again attracted the attention of the local and national media due to his most recent intervention in a public space, in which he criticized Lisbon’s housing prices.
On the Cais das Colunas, in Terreiro do Paço, a banner with graphics inspired by real estate agency ads read “Vende-se Lisboa”. In addition, the number of the Lisbon City Council’s (CML) Habitar program was visible.

An old town, with great sun exposure all year round and recently refurbished with luxury details. Inserted in a premium area of the Iberian Peninsula, it has stunning views over the Tagus River and easy access to restaurants and deluxe shops,” wrote Bordalo II in his Instagram post.
The 38-year-old artist went even further in his criticism of real estate speculation, pointing out that this is “a dream opportunity in a city where most people can’t even dream of living”.
Criticism of rising prices
According to the Observador, the banner was removed by CML as it was “an unauthorized installation” and “an attack on the local heritage”.
This controversial action came at a time when house prices have been skyrocketing. According to SIC Notícias, there was a 17.7% increase in June compared to the same period last year.
