The IC20 (Itinerário Complementar 20) is officially open to traffic . Since June 2, 2025, it has been connecting Costa da Caparica and Almada, offering more direct access to the 25 de Abril Bridge.
With a length of 3.6 kilometers, the new road branch represented an investment of 20.5 million euros, and was designed to improve circulation on the south bank, increasing the safety of motorists, as well as the speed with which this route was previously made, eliminating the intersection that hindered normal traffic in this area.
What will the IC20 improve?
With the development of the new IC20 , traffic is expected to flow more smoothly, there will be fewer constraints and, above all, everyone who lives or commutes daily between Costa da Caparica, Almada and Lisbon will feel more comfortable in these journeys, promising reduced travel times and faster mobility in this region.
So, in a nutshell, we can say that the IC20 will bring these improvements to thousands of citizens:
- improved traffic, even at peak times;
- fewer accidents and stop-starts;
- shorter journeys ;
- greater safety.
