As usual every year, homeless people will once again be able to enjoy a solidarity Christmas lunch, organized by Metropolitano de Lisboa and the CASA – Centro de Apoio ao Sem-Abrigo association.
This special moment, prepared for around 300 people, will take place next Saturday, December 14, in the cafeteria of the Metropolitano facilities in Carnide, from 12:30 pm to 3 pm.
This charity event, which has now taken place for the fifteenth time in a row, reflects Metropolitano’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and support for the most vulnerable community.
The special guest
This charity lunch for the homeless wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable help of Metropolitano de Lisboa employees, who volunteered to organize the whole event.
Also taking part in this Christmas lunch is the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa , who has always highlighted this gesture of solidarity on the part of these two organizations.
The charity Christmas lunch will provide a full meal including a main course (with a vegetarian option) and traditional seasonal sweets, as well as additional services such as haircuts and health screening, provided with the support of students from the Faculty of Medicine in Lisbon, who join the 80 or so volunteers dedicated to making this day special.
Another of the usual and much-anticipated moments will be the handing out of warm clothing kits to participants, which will take place for the third year running, with Metropolitano de Lisboa donating a cloth bag with a blanket, a hat and socks, all created from recycled materials from the discontinued uniforms of the Lisbon transport company.
The charity lunch covers homeless people from various areas of the city, including Santa Apolónia, Gare do Oriente, Terreiro do Paço, Campo das Cebolas, Cais do Sodré, Avenida Almirante Reis and S. Jorge de Arroios.
