It’s in Cacilhas , Almada, one of our favorite places in Greater Lisbon, the Cais do Ginjal, which has been closed since April 3 for safety reasons, due to the risk of collapses in several dilapidated buildings in the area.
Now, after an investment of around 300 million euros and an intervention that began on May 5, Cais do Ginjal will finally reopen to the public on July 31.
Inês de Medeiros, Mayor of Almada, told Público newspaper,
This will be a new chapter for Almada, where past and future meet, and the people of Almada and those who visit us will once again be able to enjoy this wonderful river that is our Tejo.”

The redevelopment plan for Cais do Ginjal was unanimously approved in November 2020, in a partnership between the municipality and the AFA Group, with an estimated investment of 300 million euros with the aim of restoring around 90,000 square meters, including a housing complex with around 300 homes, stores and services, a hotel with 160 rooms, social facilities and 500 parking spaces.

As soon as it opens, the path along the Tagus, where it will be safe to walk from July 31, will have an exhibition dedicated to the history of this emblematic and very beautiful place in Almada, in a kind of celebration between this city on the south bank and the Tagus river, thus promoting the return of all visitors to this riverside area.
