The Marvila neighborhood is constantly changing and Lisbon’s new open-air urban art gallery is one of many examples of this.
It’s called “Walls That Matter – 8 Take Over”, and will host murals by artists such as Mário Belém, RAM and Gonçalo MAR, among many others.
Lisbon’s new art epicenter
We’ve already introduced you to one of the city’s most recent multicultural hubs, 8 Marvila, which is now even more interesting after receiving a new project that brings together several urban art artists.
The artistic initiative “Walls That Matter – 8 Take Over” will be taking place between October and November. And when we say “will be happening” it’s because, while you’re visiting, several renowned national and international artists are still creating their works on the walls of this space. In other words, it’s a gallery that’s constantly being updated.
Curated and produced by Because Art Matters, among the guests already announced to create murals that promise to renew the urban scene and, at the same time, make art accessible to all Lisboners and visitors, we highlight:
- RAM
- Mário Belém
- Jacqueline de Montaigne
- Gonçalo MAR
- L7 Matrix
- Patrícia Mariano
- Rita Ravasco
- Arm Collective
- Binau
- Burry Buermans
The organization also promises other surprise guests, who will also have the chance to create live, while visitors pass through the space to watch the birth of the new murals live and in color.
The first paintings began on October 10, with the artists RAM and MAR starting the interventions, which you can visit throughout November.
For Gonçalo Magalhães, founder and curator of Because Art Matters, who curates and produces this gallery,
It’s a project that I’ve wanted to materialize for some time and which aims to generate relevant cultural and artistic value for the city. It is an offer for Lisbon, for its inhabitants and visitors, which celebrates mural art at its best. A living project that will continue to grow with new guest artists over time.”
