Repaving work on Avenida da Liberdade begins on Monday, August 19, and is expected to be completed on September 20.
The work, which aims to improve mobility conditions on some of the wide sidewalks of one of the lisbon’s busiest avenues, will take place during the night, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., affecting normal traffic circulation between the Marquis of Pombal and Praça da Alegria, as well as between Rua das Pretas and this same square.
Total shutdown of traffic
The resurfacing work on Avenida da Liberdade will be divided into two phases in order to minimally impact traffic there:
- Phase 1 (from August 19 to September 6): affecting the downhill route from Marquês de Pombal to Praça da Alegria, including the outer ring of Praça do Marquês de Pombal;
- Phase 2 (from September 2 to 20): involves the downhill road from Rua das Pretas to Marquês de Pombal, with the same impact on the outer ring of Praça do Marquês de Pombal.
It is expected that during the resurfacing work there will be a total stoppage of traffic on the affected side roads, and there will always be police on site to clarify any doubts about traffic, which will be re-established every morning until the end of the work.
