After 19 years of concerts, parties, unlikely encounters and stories that have marked generations, Musicbox will officially close its program at the mythical Rua Cor de Rosa, in Cais do Sodré, on September 15th.
For many Lisbon residents and visitors to this iconic venue, it will be the end of an era; for others, it will be proof that culture isn’t disappearing, it’s just reinventing itself , now at another address:
Until recently, we believed that it would be possible to maintain both projects, but that didn’t happen. It probably wouldn’t have made sense. Casa Capitão is, therefore, the last project realized by Musicbox and, in this way, gives it continuity.”, can be read in the sad and already nostalgic statement to our newsroom by Gonçalo Riscado.

A fresh start
The closure of Musicbox, despite being bad news, also marks a fresh start, or a new destination for the projects that were presented at Rua Cor de Rosa , through the new Casa Capitão.
It will be a reality in the former Manutenção Militar, in the emerging Beato Innovation District, a neighborhood that has given new life to the eastern side of the city. The opening is scheduled for September 19, promising a multidisciplinary space, open to music, but also to visual art, thought, performance and innovation.

Casa Capitão aims to act as a platform for creative communities to meet, hosting events of different sizes, artistic residencies and transversal experiences, in a location that is becoming one of Lisbon’s most dynamic cultural centers.
Casa Capitão will have all the benefits of already being part of an ecosystem that already includes coworking spaces, startups, urban art and a diverse community ready to experience the city in a different way, in the Beato Innovation District, and away from the obvious routes and crowds of the historic center.
There are already some events scheduled, even before it opens, especially for the opening weekend, which will be free to enter.
Address: Rua do Grilo 119 (Beato Innovation District)
Opening hours: Thursday to Sunday, from 5pm to 1am (from September 19th)
