The Candlelight concerts have been held at various venues throughout Lisbon, and the Ajuda Palace is now joining this tour, featuring some of the most intimate candlelit performances ever.
The first concert to take place in this magnificent venue in Lisbon will be held on March 24, at two different times—7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.—featuring a tribute to Vivaldi’s finest compositions.

Ajuda Palace, in the D. Luís I Hall
Let’s get into the details—all the details—of the candlelight concerts. First, we’d like to take you on a little journey through this space steeped in history.
The Ajuda Palace was commissioned in 1796 to replace the Real Barraca following the destruction of the Paço da Ribeira by the 1755 earthquake.
It was here that the Portuguese royal family resided from the reign of King Luís I until the establishment of the Republic in 1910, and it served as the venue for court ceremonies, grand balls, and banquets.
So, what better venue could there be to host one of the most incredible Candlelight concerts in recent memory? The D. Luís I Hall, of course!
It’s located on the main floor of one of Lisbon’s most beautiful and imposing palaces, and it was the setting for a grand ball on the occasion of the wedding of King Luís I and Queen Maria Pia of Savoy.
