After nearly three weeks of construction, the Cais do Sodré metro station reopens to the public this Thursday, August 27, as previously scheduled. Normal service on the Green Line between Telheiras and Cais do Sodré, in both directions, begins at 6:30 a.m.
One last night of partial closure
To allow for the completion of the work necessary for the reopening, the section of the Green Line between Martim Moniz and Cais do Sodré was closed starting at 11:00 p.m. yesterday, August 26, until the end of service. During this time, service on the Green Line was limited to the section between Telheiras and Martim Moniz, in both directions.
Nearly three weeks of signaling work
The station was closed to the public from August 8 through 26 due to railway signaling work related to the construction of the future Circular Line. According to Metropolitano de Lisboa, the work was carried out to prepare the network for the future operational configuration of the new line. With the reopening, the alternative transportation options provided during the closure—such as the Terreiro do Paço metro line or the additional Carris bus service between Martim Moniz, Rossio, Praça da Figueira, and Chiado—are no longer necessary.
On the way to the Circular Line
These works are part of the preparation for the future Circular Line, scheduled to begin operation in the first quarter of 2027. The new line will connect Rato to Cais do Sodré, passing through two new stations— Estrela and Santos —and will link the current Yellow and Green lines into a circular loop in the center of Lisbon, adding more than two kilometers to the network.
