We launched a challenge on our social networks which consisted of asking our followers what they would never eat even if they were very hungry.
We received more than 1,000 comments on Facebook alone, joined by more than 130 responses on Instagram.
From the various answers, many of them with hilarious justifications (for example, my ex-husband), to dishes that we were completely unaware of, this is, according to the answers given to us by those who agreed to take part in this challenge, the list of meals that the Portuguese hate the most:
Snails
Loved by many and, apparently, loathed by many others, snails are a summer delicacy (from May to August) that is on the list of foods that many would refuse to eat even if they were very hungry.
Around here, we love this as much as other snacks of this kind.
Bait
You can order two portions of bait for us, we love it! But for most of the Portuguese who responded to this challenge, the bait is one of those dishes they prefer to keep their distance from.
It’s more for those who like it with boiled or fried potatoes. Hummm… how delicious!
Worms and insects
They say it will be the food of the future. And many oriental communities are already opting for this style of eating, which they say is very nutritious and a source of several vital vitamins for the human body.
We’ve never tried it, but the truth is that we don’t feel much like it. Argh…
Guts
And by tripe we can include the famous Tripas à Moda do Porto, which was also our choice. Apologies to our friends from the North.
It may be a delicious dish, but we just can’t see ourselves being able to put a plate of tripe down our throats, even if we’re starving.
Favas
This was one of the answers that surprised us the most: favas. Yes, it seems that this little legume doesn’t have many fans in our country.
Around here, we can’t imagine not having a nice plate of Portuguese Stewed Broad Beans or Broad Beans with Ribs and Sausage. It’s so good…
We’re sure that there are many more recipes that you’re adverse to, or even like at all. For us, what matters is at least tasting it!
